The Regional Center for the Care and Shelter of the Elderly in Tafersit, Driouch Province, celebrated the Amazigh New Year “Asgas Amaynu 2974” in a joyful atmosphere, in accordance with the rich and authentic Amazigh Rif traditions.
The celebration took place on the evening of Sunday, January 14, 2024, in the presence of all the center’s staff — including administrative personnel, social caregivers, and support staff. The event began with the Moroccan national anthem, followed by a speech from the representative of the General Administration of the Center.
In his address, he extended warm congratulations and best wishes on the occasion of the Amazigh New Year to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, to all the components of the authentic Moroccan people, to the center’s partners, staff, and beneficiaries. He also conveyed the apologies of the General Director of the Social Pole in Tafersit for being unable to attend due to professional commitments.
He then welcomed all attendees — guests and staff alike — noting that every member of the center had contributed, each from their position and within their means, to the success of this event, which holds deep symbolic significance for all Moroccans. He also reminded attendees of the heroic deeds and noble qualities of their ancestors, such as loyalty, devotion to the nation and its sacred values, patience, and generosity — values that continue to live on today through the existence of this social institution in Tafersit, made possible thanks to the National Initiative for Human Development.
He expressed special thanks to the staff of the Regional Center for People with Special Needs in Tafersit — particularly the physical therapist, the coordinator of the workshops and recreational activities department, and the supervisors — for their support and efforts in making the celebration a success.
Afterward, the representative of the General Administration led the traditional cake-cutting ceremony for the Amazigh New Year and distributed dried fruits in accordance with Amazigh customs for such occasions. The event was marked by an atmosphere of joy, happiness, and celebration, as all participants prayed that Almighty God would continue to bless Morocco with security, peace, and stability under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI — may God assist and protect him.
